Spookyland is the musical vehicle for 24 year old Sydney-based Marcus Gordon and band consisting of his brother guitarist Liam Gordon, drummer Nath Mansfield and bass-player Nic Malouf.
Spookyland's debut EP, 'Rock and Roll Weakling' received local and international praise from the likes of NME, Rolling Stone, and Pitchfork - who described their music as "so raw and trusting that you want to handle it with care, unlike the heart he sings about that keeps getting carelessly broken". The band soon proved their mettle in the live arena with high profile support slots including Cold War Kids, Benjamin Booker, The Lemonheads and Band of Skulls. An appearance at 2015's Lollapolooza in Chicago soon followed, where the band where named by Consequence of Sound as one of their Top Ten acts not to miss.
In late 2015 the band trekked to Omaha, Nebraska where they recorded at Connor Oberst's ARC Studios; home of producer Mike Mogis and location of recent recordings by Bright Eyes, First Aid Kit, Jenny Lewis amongst others. There they recorded their debut album with Sydney native and long-time collaborator Tony Buchen at the helm.
In December 2015, the band released "Bulimic" - a 7 minute epic - "Just when you thought Spookyland couldn't get any more emotionally impactful, they find a way. This is a hungry band" - The Ripe. Follow-up track "God's Eyes" received similar praise - "holy frick… Spookyland is the most mind-bogglingly talented and unique sounding bands I've heard in quite a while. There isn't much that's as impressing to me as a band that can consistently deliver quality tracks like this" - Indie Shuffle.
Spookyland's debut album "Beauty Already Beautiful" is due for release in May 2016.
